Spot have flat, silvery sides, accented with shades of purple along the back;
the distinctive spot just behind the gills gives the fish its name.
Spot can often be caught in the local lagoons and tributaries during late August/September.
Fish for them near bridges, pilings or other structure using #4 hooks (or smaller) baited with small pieces of clam or blood worm.
Spot make excellent live bait fish for catching many species, including striped bass, summer flounder and even tuna fish.
