The Winter Flounder is a flat-sided bottom fish.
The eyes of the flounder are on the right side of the fish.
Winter flounder have small, tooth-less mouths, requiring small, longshank hooks and soft baits.
They are prized table fare and are caught in early spring on muddy bottoms in back bays and rivers.
Chumming with clams, mussels or corn is required, as is a sash weight or similar item for stirring up the bottom to make flounder more active than they might otherwise be.
